John W. Huelskamp, President/CEO
John W. Huelskamp has over 25 years of executive management and sales and marketing experience in the Medical Industry. Prior to founding BG Medical, he served as President of MedChannel’s Distribution and General Surgery Group. In this capacity he positioned three medical device companies for successful commercialization in the United States. Revenues for all three companies are at a run rate of $25 million+ for the third year since introduction, and all are positioned for Acquisition or IPO.
Prior to this, John served as Senior Director of Sales for Onux Medical, a medical device start-up that competed against market leaders TYCO and Ethicon. Because of the aggressive sales and market share capture under his leadership in the Field (15% share in 18 months), Onux Medical was acquired by C.R. Bard, Davol Division.
Prior to Onux Medical, he served as Director of U.S. Sales for SonoSite (NASDAQ: SONO). Under his leadership in this highly competitive imaging market, SonoSite revenues grew from $5 million to $27 million in the first year against formidable competitors: Philips, Siemens, and GE. Previous to this, he held Executive sales positions with several Fortune 500 medical device companies including Toshiba, Datascope, and Pfizer-Howmedica.
John’s expertise is in assessing business opportunities, defining business strategies, building the supporting management, sales, and marketing infrastructure … and managing execution. He has consistently achieved double-digit growth and market share, working in highly competitive, established markets against industry leaders. His track record includes leading sales and marketing teams in many organizations to the number one market leadership position.
John is also an advisor to several AMA Societies including ACS, RSNA, ACEP, SLS, SAEM, and AHA. He received his BA from John Carroll University, Ohio, and attended the MBA Program at Loyola University of Chicago.
Eric Nelson, VP of Marketing
With over 20 years experience with the development and marketing of advanced technology mesh materials for soft tissue reconstruction, Mr. Nelson represents very successful experience with a wide range of mesh materials in a wide range of surgical applications. Most recently as the VP of Marketing at the MEDCHANNEL, LLC Surgical Group, previously as the Senior Director of Marketing at ONUX Medical, Inc. and early in his career at W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Mr. Nelson introduced innovative mesh material technologies and significantly influenced the adoption of those materials in hernia repair and pelvic reconstruction markets. With an early passion for the development and application of advanced constructions of mesh materials, Mr. Nelson will help lead BG Medical in penetrating the North American mesh marketplace with a line of next generation hernia and pelvic reconstructive configurations to improve the outcomes of wall defect reconstructions.
Eric has an MS in BioMedical Engineering and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University.
Patrick E. Moroney, Chief Information Officer
Through January 2006 Patrick Moroney has been the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) specifically responsible for enterprise-wide information technology strategy and operations which includes four Blue Cross Blue Shield plans (Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico). Mr. Moroney’s role was to ensure HCSC’s healthcare business strategy was enabled by technology investment and delivery and that the mission of the company to make healthcare affordable and accessible to members was achieved. His I.T. total staff of 2,200 supported all business operations including claims processing, membership, customer service and operations and internal and external partner relationships.
Mr. Moroney began his career at HCSC in December, 2002. Prior to HCSC he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at The ServiceMaster Company (2000-2002), a $7 billion firm which provided consumer home services and education and healthcare facilities outsourcing having joined after leading the I.T. merger integration of Monsanto and Pharmacia-UpJohn. From 1985-2000, Mr. Moroney spent 15 years growing throughout the global Monsanto organization (G.D. Searle, NutraSweet, Equal, Ortho Brands, others) in various I.T. leadership challenges and from 1997-2000 was the Chief Information Officer of Monsanto's Nutrition and Consumer Products Sector of businesses.
Mr. Moroney is an active member of the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Information Management (SIM) and serves on its Board of Directors. He is a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). He is also President of Technology Leaders Association (TLA) a collegial networking organization for senior technology executives. He is a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago and received the Club’s “CIO of the Year” award for 2004, ComputerWorld Magazine’s “Top 100 CIOs in the country” award for 2006 and helped his IT organization at HCSC achieve the #21 spot in ComputerWorld’s top 100 best IT workplaces in 2005. Mr. Moroney received a Bachelors in Business Administration degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1977.
David G. Huelskamp / Director - CTO
David G. Huelskamp is an outside director for BG Medical with special expertise in sales and operations management for high technology companies. He has over thirty three years of experience in sales management and operations management for multi-million dollar firms including Stearns Roger, Raytheon and Merrick & Company.
He is a graduate of the USAF Academy with a degree in Civil Engineering, and has a Master of Business Administration degree form Arizona State University. After serving five years as an officer in the USAF, David began his career with technology companies serving in many roles including project engineer, project manager, business development director, vice president of operations, and senior vice president, business development. David serves on several boards advising management teams on business development and operations strategies.
